Song of the Day
Last week we went and saw the Thermals who were awesome as per uze. They were so good that they almost got the massive security guard who looks like Suge Knight to stagedive. Pretty sure he realized he would’ve instantly crushed the 130 lb doofuses in the crowd.
Anyway, the opener was this band, Hop Along, who admittedly, we’d never heard of. But just because we’ve never heard of something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist which is why we don’t look up anything on WebMD. The band’s standout trait is their singer’s voice. She kinda sounds like if Cat Power had a kid sister. Kitten Power. WE ARE TRADEMARKING THAT SHIT RIGHT NOW ALL RIGHTS BELONG TO US DON’T EVEN TRY US WE HAVE A LAWYER.
Anyway, we talked to her for a little bit afterwards and just about the only thing she’s better at than singing is telling bad jokes. She even brought the interrupting starfish out of joke retirement. Don’t know it? By all means, go up and ask her.
Then we asked if she was working on anything in the future and she mentioned that she had a new single out TODAY and this is it. What are the odds? That’d be like if you found out about a new band you really like and then asked when they had new music out and they said next week. We realize that’s not much of a comparison but we’ve been numbed by this band’s anti-jokes that it was the best we could do.
Paper + Plastick Records have released a free summer sampler that includes Light Years, Pentimento, The Swellers, The Braces, and many more. Download it here and check out the artwork and track listing below after the jump.
